About Us
The aim of the Centre is to undertake a programme of research and related activities which will inform the development of policy and provision in the field of lifelong learning in Scotland and beyond.
Research
The Centre undertakes research which deepens our understanding of the issues associated with lifelong learning and contribute to the development of future policy and provision. A number of targeted themes for research have been identified. They include:
- Widening participation, social inclusion and inequality
- Work-related learning, skills development and employability
- Experiential, non-formal and community-based learning
- The changing nature of further & higher education, including approaches to learning and teaching
- Linkages and transitions between school based and post compulsory learning.
Services
The Centre engages a range of research activities for the benefit of users of research within and beyond Scotland including:
- Research projects around the themes identified above
- Independent research activities and evaluation for policy-makers
- Publicly funded research
- Organising the Scottish Forum for Lifelong Learning and seminars on key issues which bring together members of the research, policy and practice communities
- Bi-annual series of International conferences on lifelong learning
- Publishing academic articles and books
- CRLL Web-site provides up to date information on events and publications

Advisory Committee
An Advisory Committee (click here for further information) has been established which includes representatives from a wide range of organisations associated with developing and providing lifelong learning. There are also international representatives on the Advisory Group, who participate mainly through email, and a wider International Panel will be established on a similar basis.
